World literature on Møn

Programme

Author Deborah Levy with the book My Year in Paris with Gertrude Stein.

The music for this Author's Concert is partly French, flowing like the book's text, which is a tribute to Stravinsky, who was a musical counterpart to the modernist movements and also lived in Paris, as well as a piece by John Cage, who is mentioned in the book. Paris in the near present is represented by a short movement by Kaija Saariaho, who lived in Paris.

We are pleased to present the South African/British author at this year's World Literature on Møn.
Look forward to two days of long conversations about an exciting writing career.

World Literature on Møn is a unique meeting between author, moderators and audience, where time and immersion in conversation are central. This has been the core of our events with international authors since the beginning in 2000.

One of the focal points of the conversations with Deborah Levy at World Literature on Møn will be the novel My Year in Paris with Gertrude Stein, which will be published by Vinter Forlag before the event.

You will be able to experience the author in conversation with Lea Fløe Christensen (Saturday 19/9) and Bodil Skovgaard Nielsen (Sunday 20/9).

Deborah Levy (b. 1959) was born in South Africa, but has lived most of her life in England. She made her debut as a novelist in 1989 and was associated with the Royal Shakespeare Company as a playwright for a number of years. She has published collections of short stories, poetry and plays, and eight novels, three of which have been nominated for the prestigious Booker Prize. Levy had an international breakthrough with the memoir trilogy Things I don't want to know, Cost of living og Real estate, which was hailed as a masterpiece and is today considered a modern classic. Recent publications in Danish (from Vinter Forlag) are August blue og Spoon placement (2024) and Hot Milk (2025).

In addition to the literary conversations, the event will feature a significant musical contribution - on both days - with Ensemble Storstrøm/Danish Chamber Players , which has developed its own literary concert form, where the music program is curated from a book. We look forward to welcoming you to a concert with the 8 excellent musicians in the ensemble, with readings in Danish from My Year in Paris with Gertrude Stein.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event. More information about this will be included in the final program.
