Experience the chamber opera Erna and the Inn, with text from Erling Jepsen's novel and music by Peter Bruun, produced by Norobo in collaboration with Danish Chamber Players.
Erling Jepsen's humorous provincial tale highlights the difference between country and city and the fear of the unknown.
MAKE BRAMSTRUP GREAT AGAIN!
The subtle tale of the dying village of Bramstrup in southern Jutland is transformed into a sour Twin Peaks universe in a sharp-edged chamber opera. Our ideas about the contradictions between the capital's cultural elite and the provincial backwardness are dramatically and lovingly painted against a backdrop of globalization and identity issues.
Can you rekindle the spark of life in a languid provincial town where time has stood still for generations? Yes, if you ask Erna!
Bramstrup is a neglected wasteland, characterized by empty shops and a closed inn. But then a large foundation in Copenhagen might pay for the renovation of the run-down town in Southern Jutland on the occasion of the Queen's visit.
Erna does everything she can to breathe new life into Bramstrup - and perhaps herself too. Because in the middle of a farce about the fight for survival, a different, touching and dangerous love story emerges.
With mutual help, chaos and shipwreck are overcome, and things seem to be going brilliantly. But is it all too good to be true? Is the truth, unfortunately, that you have to be a gangster to survive in the outskirts of Denmark?
Peter Bruun's humorous and nuanced music brings Erling Jepsen's colorful universe to life. The music is performed by seven musicians from the Danish Chamber Players, who, together with the five singers, fill the stage with drama, music and lots of humor.
